Former New Zealand Warriors and Kiwis rugby league prop Iafeta Paleaaesina has been arrested in Britain on suspicion of assault.
The Wigan Warriors player has been accused of punching a bus driver in a carpark.
Police are investigating whether the 1.82m tall and 111kg Paleaaesina broke the jawof James Campbell in a dawn brawl at a railway station car park.
The incident was alleged to have happened at 5.20am on October 6, the morning after Wigan were knocked out of the Super League playoffs by eventual champions Leeds.
Paleaaesina, 25, voluntarily went to the Wigan police station and was arrested, then was released on bail pending further inquiries.
The Wigan Observer newspaper said today police will announce on November 22 whether or not he will be charged.
Campbell told police he was punched at the Wigan North Western railway station and needed hospital treatment.
He has since been sent to a specialist to check whether he needs surgery.
Paleaaesina was questioned by officers from British Transport Police - because the incident took place on railway property.
The newspaper reported news of the arrest was a shock to fans , who has become a firm favourite at JJB Stadium after signing for the club at the start of last season.
Since then, he has missed only two matches, and played in the October 5 final eliminator in Leeds, which saw Wigan's hopes of reaching the grand final from sixth position shattered at the final hurdle by the Leeds Rhinos.
"We are aware of the situation and it is being dealt with by the authorities. We cannot make any further comment at this stage," a Wigan spokesman said.
Shortly before the incident, Paleaaesina - who won three caps for the Kiwis - said he was turning his back on New Zealand to help Samoa qualify for next year's World Cup.
He has already gained permission from the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) to switch his eligibility and play for Samoa, along with another former Kiwi - Penrith forward Tony Puletua.
