Former Auckland lawyer begins trial for fraud

A former Auckland lawyer, now a property manager in Dunedin, went on trial in the Dunedin District Court yesterday on three charges of making a false statement, fraudulently using a document and attempting to obstruct justice.

James Chapman Eide, 62, denies the allegations, which relate to a joint-venture loyalty card superannuation scheme begun seven years ago.

Eide's trial before Judge David Saunders, sitting without a jury, is expected to be completed next week.
