A vegetation fire that cause State Highway 2 to be closed down near Carterton is almost extinguished.
Six fire trucks and two tankers were attending a vegetation fire in the Carterton District, north of Wellington, which broke out at around 1pm this afternoon.
Due to the fire SH2 was closedbetween the intersections with Brooklyn Rd and Victoria St, Waka Kotahi NZTA advised.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said the fire, off Costly St in Carterton, had claimed one shed.
The fire was 60 by 80m in size, and several properties were threatened earlier.
By 4pm the fire had been mostly extinguished, and all but one of the crews had left the scene, the spokesman said.
The remaining firefighters were just assuring hotspots were dampened down.
