Fence for dangerous Taupo cliff

A section of cliff above the Waikato River where a teenager died recently is to be permanently fenced.

The Taupo District Council has already put up a temporary fence on the bluff from which 16-year-old Kelly Gillard fell on October 31.

The teenager was sitting on the edge of the cliff around midnight. She is believed to have lost her balance as she stood up, slipping over the cliff.
