Faulty equipment sees drink-drive cases dropped

Twenty-six drink driving cases brought by Waitakere police in west Auckland have collapsed, because of faulty equipment.

Prosecutions based on evidential breath tests taken between June 6-25 are being withdrawn.

A fault has been discovered at the machine used to take the tests at the Henderson Police Station.

Inspector Rob Abbott of Waitakere Police says the problem was picked up during a routine check of the machine.

He says recordings on the machine make it possible to identify all the unreliable readings, and the people concerned have been contacted.
