Ending on high note

Wairarapa College deputy principal Tracy Walker is ending her time at the school on a highlight, she says, ahead of her posting as principal of Waitaki Girls' High School in Oamaru.

Ms Walker is to start as principal on July 16 after accompanying a Wairarapa College development team to the World Sport Netball Carnival on the Gold Coast in Australia during the next school holidays.

She said the sporting trip has been 18 months in the planning and will make for an exhilarating close to her eight years at Wairarapa College.

"It will be good to end on a highlight. I have loved my time at Wairarapa College."

Ms Walker started as assistant principal at the college after leaving a decade-long post as head of English at Feilding High School, she said.

She has worked in the classroom for 25 years and started teaching at Wanganui Girls' College, she said.

"It's quite a tidy symmetry to be returning to a girls' school and while teaching co-eds has been rewarding, I am looking forward to being back with girls, who tend to work collaboratively," she said.
