Emergency services are responding to a sudden death at a forestry worksite near Gisborne.

A police spokesperson said the circumstances of the death are being determined and WorkSafe has been notified.

WorkSafe confirmed an investigation into the incident has been opened.

They said the incident on Wharekopae Rd took place about 2pm.

St John workers also responded.
