Person killed after being struck by tree while chopping it down

A person has died after being hit by a tree they were chopping down on a farm in the Waikato.

Emergency services were called to a rural property in Kopaki this afternoon, about 1.40pm.

“Initial inquiries indicate the person had been chopping down the tree and was struck when the tree fell,” authorities said.

WorkSafe has been notified of the death, which will be referred to the coroner.
