A ROLLICKING 65 by all-rounder Josh Doherty was the main catalyst to Greytown's 39-run win over Red Star in their Wairarapa Cricket Association Bidwell Cup senior inter-club cricker match at the Park Sportsground in Masterton on Saturday.
Red Star looked well on the way to what would have been an upset
win when they took an 18-run first innings lead, reaching 113 in reply for Greytown's 95 thanks to some hard hitting from Jamie Governor.,whose 40 included one six and Nick Moorcock who struck three fours in his 20.
Greytown's second innings could hardly have started worse and they slumped from 2-2 to 13-5 before Doherty, who came in at number six, took over. Two of his first three scoring shots were fours and hs 65 included three sixes and six fours.
He was given handy support by lower order players Andy Ewington (17), Glen Jonas (16) and Ben Hodder (20 not out) and when the last wicket fell Greytown had got through to 139.
Jared Watt with 4-29 and Carwyn Caffell with 4-22 were the main wicket takers for Red Star and there was some lively bowling from left armer Keith Pullman who had 2-25 after seven overs before he had 20 runs, including two siuxes, taken off his eighth and last over.
Set 122 for the outright win Red Star's batting struggled against a powerful Greytown attack and they were all out for 83 with Daniel Stonely's 17
the top score.
Promising Ben Hodder completed a fine all-round effort for Greytown by takin 4-7 from just four overs while Shane Mellor finished with 2-19 and Glen Jonas 2-11.
