Dalefield continued their winless start to the Wellington premier hockey season with both the men and women crashing to heavy defeats in Clareville on Saturday. The women suffered the worst humiliation, with a powerful Indians outfit running riot to notch a 6-1 scoreline. The result will likely put a serious dent inthe home side's confidence ahead of next week's clash against defending champions Eastern Hutt. Not to be spared, the men likewise found their back net rattled on numerous occasions as they conceded five goals to Victoria University, though they managed two take two well-struck opportunities of their own. Despite the 5-2 scoreline, coach Mark Fenwick was upbeat about his team's performance. "We were 50 per cent better than last week, we tried a few things and started to use a few of the skills we've learned at training and in that respect I'm pleased with the match," he said. "A few of the guys showed they could step it up and the goals we scored were really well constructed team efforts, it's good to see that sort of improvement. "Tobin Yeo, Chamus Wyatt played really well and the Mason brothers (Chris and Greg) were outstanding." The home side were well in the contest at halftime with Mark Scully opening the scoring before the varsity team answered with a brace to take the lead into the second spell. Doug Wilton added a second for Dalefield, who were missing key midfielder Andy Ewington, but it was not enough to stem the flow against them. The match also pitted former local boy and New Zealand representative Daniel Juno against his old side for the first time, which resulted in a fair bit of niggle. Next week the campaign gets even tougher as they head to the capital to take on the Indians.
