Police have charged a woman with murder after a man died early this morning in a Hamilton home.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Neilson said a 45-year-old woman has been charged with the man’s murder.
Police were called to a Rototuna address about 2am where they located a man in acritical condition. Attempts by police and ambulance staff to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.
“Police can confirm the man and woman were known to each other and we would like to reassure the community that we are not seeking anyone else in relation to the man’s [death],” Neilson said.
Police have been at the address since early this morning conducting a scene examination and will continue to speak to witnesses over the coming days.
“We understand this tragic incident will have shaken the community and police and Victim Support have been and will continue to work closely to offer support for those involved.”
Police expect to remain at the scene over the next two days. As the matter is before the court, police are unable to comment further on the specifics of the case.
A homicide investigation was launched today after police were called to the Cramner Close property at 2am.
During a hearing this afternoon in the Hamilton District Court, the accused woman was granted interim name suppression after appearing via audio visual link from her Waikato Hospital bed.
She will reappear in the High Court at Hamilton next month.
