An attack on Auckland's North Shore left a man in his 20s unconscious and a 17-year-old boy with a split under his eye.
A young trio was attacked - one left unconscious and taken to hospital - on a suburban Auckland street after construction workers allegedly hurled abuse and threw bottles at them.
Police are investigating the incident that happened as a 17-year-old boy, 18-year-old woman and a man in his 20s wereallegedly targeted while walking down Beach Haven Rd on Friday.
A local woman and mother of the youngest teen, who wishes for her and her family to stay anonymous, told the Herald her nephew was knocked unconscious by a group of trade contractors.
She claimed he suffered a small fracture in his nose and jaw and was just getting his memory back days after the violent incident.
One person was taken to North Shore Hospital in a moderate condition.
The alleged victims and multiple witnesses said the workers involved drove trucks branded with TZL, a North Shore-based scaffolding company.
TZL owner Thomas Williams told the Herald those involved were not employees of TZL Scaffolding, and were independent contractors hired by him to do a job on the day of the incident.
“I’m shocked at the false accusations. There are definitely two sides to this story.
“I won’t comment on anything as I have sent the workers involved to the police and I will let them handle it.”
Williams also said he had received threats and harassment from the family involved and other ‘random’ people.
The boy’s mother told the Herald a police officer at the scene rang her last night and said there was a “high chance” the workers wouldn’t get charged as “they’ve given multiple statements claiming it was a mutual fight”.
“If this is the case, I am beyond disgusted in our law, or lack of it.”
The young trio had walked down the road when they claimed a group of three men in a scaffolding truck whistled and yelled “something sleazy” at the woman’s 18-year-old niece.
“Which made my son and nephew yell at the truck to ‘get f****d’.
