A Nelson man has been charged in relation to the theft of up to $30,000 worth of tools taken from a construction site this month.
The 42-year-old appeared in the Nelson District Court today facing multiple theft and burglary charges.
Officers from the Nelson Tactical Crime Unit have been workingon the case since the theft occurred at the Fitzgerald Construction site, on Trafalgar St, on October 22.
"Police executed a search warrant late last week at an address on Atawhai Drive, where the vehicle used in the burglary was located,'' police said.
"The vehicle had previously been stolen from a commercial premises in Nelson on October 13. Police also located a trailer which had been stolen several days earlier.''
Authorities said the case was a reminder for construction workers to make sure all tools were properly secured on sites and that vehicles, sheds and other buildings were adequately locked before leaving.
