A well-known Waikato businessman has ended his prison hunger strike after being found guilty of sexually abusing an intellectually disabled woman.
The man, whose name is suppressed, had refused to eat since arriving at Waikeria Prison on June 30, following his convictions for rape, unlawful sexual connection and indecent assault.
The man claimed he was treated unfairly by the legal system because certain defence evidence was not allowed to be heard at his trial.
But his son last night told Fairfax Media his father had to begin eating again early this week after a health scare.
