Cockburn Street upgrade progressing smoothly

THE wait is over. Sewerage problems have plagued Cockburn Street residents for decades and in the past week Levin Bobcats have begun groundwork to alleviate winter flooding.
Foreman Carl Philpott said trenches have been dug along the street and piping has been laid over the past few days.
"The work is going to be both weather and ground-dependent because if the ground is too damp it becomes too dangerous to work on."
Cockburn Street residents have been coming along and inspecting the progress, he said.
"They have all been really outstanding and helpful."
Long-time resident Colin Henderson has had persistent sewerage problems for over 40 years and said he is happy to see the contractors at last.
"I'll be even happier when they've finished it."
