Television personality Lana Coc-Kroft is in Auckland Hospital battling a mystery fever after being airlifted home from Fiji, it emerged last night.
Coc-Kroft was taking part in the television game show Celebrity Treasure Island in Fiji when she suddenly became delirious and collapsed, her agent Andy Haden said.
"She was, for precautionary
reasons, medically evacuated and arrived back in New Zealand early yesterday (Wednesday)."
It was possible Coc-Kroft had a type of tropical disease, former All Black Haden told the Holmes television programme.
"It's uncertain what she's got, but it's some type of fever that's ailing her and she's under observation.
"Nobody with any medical knowledge in this part of the world knows what she has."
Tests had been done, but the results did not show any particular illness, Haden said.
"They'll just have to keep her under observation. Her condition is stable and she's conscious, but obviously in a sedated form."
The illness had come "out of the blue" and no other members of the cast or crew in Fiji had been struck down, Haden said.
"It's fortunate that she's back in this part of the world."
Fiji experiences occasional outbreaks of dengue fever, a tropical disease caused by a virus spread by mosquitoes. Symptoms include fever, headache, rash and severe joint and muscle pain.
Coc-Kroft, a former Miss New Zealand, co-presents TVNZ's Sportscafe with another former All Black, Marc Ellis.
