Wairarapa's top gun bus driver Peter Krivan has narrowly failed to hold on to his Best in New Zealand title, but he only missed out by a whisker.
Mr Krivan, representing Tranzit Coachlines Wairarapa, finished third of 24 entrants in the Tranzqual Bus Roadeo held in Dunedin over the weekend. Local
driver Brian Neligan was fourth.
The drivers from all over the country pitted their skills driving around a technically difficult course.
They were also tested on their customer service panache, road theory knowledge and ability to detect bus faults.
Although he lost the crown gained in Auckland last year - Mr Krivan was more than happy with the outcome. "The pressure of being the champion was there. It was much easier being an unknown last year but I really enjoyed it again and I'm happy with how I went."
Winner was Riki Katene, a coach driver for Harwarden Garage and Transport Company, and runner-up was Malcolm Budd of Otago Explorer.
