A gorse bush may have saved a woman's life after she fell down a 60m cliff early today.
The woman, in her late 20s, became wedged in the bush about 5m down the cliff at Highgrove, west of Cargills Castle, Dunedin, just after midnight.
A helicopter winched her to safety early todayand flew her to Dunedin Hospital, where she is being treated for minor injuries, Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said today.
Her injuries were "not thought to be too bad at all", he said.
Police were told at about 9.45pm a person had received a text message from the woman saying she was standing on a cliff edge.
Firefighters were alerted to bring ropes to try to secure the woman but she fell.
