Save Bay of Plenty doctors have confirmed a child died from meningococcal disease over the weekend.
The young child died in Rotorua hospital on Saturday night.
An effort was made to get them up to Starship hospital, but the child died before the helicopter arrived in Rotorua.

Officer of Health Neil De Wet says this case is isolated.
He says there have been six cases of of the disease this year and there haven't been any connections between this case and the others.
