Rail traffic into Auckland from the western suburbs was disrupted this morning after a person was found dead on the tracks near Henderson.
The body was found about 5.30am and police immediately closed the track west of Henderson. Buses were laid on to carry train passengers.
Police said the body was "in pieces" and it would take some time to clear the tracks and complete the investigation so that trains could resume running.
Sergeant Regan James said the police fatal crash team was at the scene near the Sturges Road crossing and the rail tracks were likely to stay closed until midday.
