The body of a missing jetski fisherman has been found.
The 61-year-old Auckland man notified Coastguard at 2.30pm yesterday when he set off from Half Moon Bay for a day of fishing.
His wife raised the alarm at 8.30pm yesterday when he didn't return from his trip.
His jetski was found overnight, anchored with a fishing line out.
Police said a local boatie found a body floating in the water between Waiheke and Motuihe islands about midday.
Police said the body has been identified as the missing jetski fisherman.
He was wearing a lifejacket when found in the water.
Coastguard, police and volunteer boaties and jetskiers all contributed to the search.
Coastguard spokeswoman Georgie Smith said the man's death was an "absolute tragedy".
"But, there is some closure in bringing him home to his family," she said.
She thanked the Coastguard volunteers and members of the public who committed their time to the search.
"They did everything they could to find him," she said.
Fellow jetski fishermen and a local jetski club were part of the search.
Coastguard was able to narrow the search down to the man's last location because he had logged his trip, Ms Smith said.
"He had communications on board the jet ski and he was wearing a life-jacket. It's just a reminder that the unexpected can happen, even when you're well prepared," she said.
