"And the thought that I placed anybody else in danger is hideous."
A regretful Laing was fined $675 and ordered to pay court costs of $132 for what was his first ever appearance in court.
With his clean history, he was disqualified from driving for the minimum mandatory period of six months.
Laing said it would not affect his acting and he was confident people would be understanding that his offending came from an innocent miscalculation.
"I could only account for four [drinks] but I have very generous friends who must have given me more," he said.
"[I was] trying to do the right thing in moving the car out of the council car park and onto the street - bad luck.
"It's embarrassing and you just feel stupid and regretful."
Laing is best known for the role of Geoff Greenlaw on Shortland Street from 2001 to 2003.
In 2008 and 2011 he played Magistrate Sextus in Spartacus, the television series about Roman gladiators.
Last year he played the role of detective sergeant Laurie MacKenzie in Underbelly NZ: The Land of the Long Green Cloud.
Laing said most of his work was based in central Auckland, so he would manage without a driver's licence.
"I travel by bus most of the time or I walk in the city. Who can afford to park anyway?"
