Grants of nearly $4.5 million for large-scale projects throughout New Zealand were approved by the Lottery Community Facilities Committee at its final meeting.
The committee has wound up its work after the Lottery Grants Board decided earlier this year to cease funding major one-off community facility projects. The move was made
in a bid to ease demand on shrinking Lottery profits.
"There was a surge of applications for this final round and all of the funds available to this committee for distribution this year have now been allocated," Lottery Grants Board secretary Paul Curry said.
"As always, there is more demand than supply and unfortunately we can't meet every request for funding we receive. This makes the job of the committee very hard," Mr Curry said in a statement.
Since the establishment of Lottery Community Facilities in 1988, more than $154 million has been distributed to over 7000 projects.
Lottery Grants Board committees would distribute $100 million this year for social services, sports, arts and film.
