Singaporean singles now go on "speed dates" that allow them to size up potential mates in seven minutes.
Speed dating proved a big hit when introduced this year to a Government-run dating agency, said Sam Soon Mee, the manager of the club that organises the dates.
"It's like musical chairs."
Each date begins with the organiser ringing a bell and declaring "ready, set, date." The man and woman talk for seven minutes, then the bell rings and the man moves to chat with another woman.
Participants write down the names of those they want to know better. When the names match, phone numbers are handed out to prospective partners.
The Government encourages university graduates to marry by sponsoring social activities for the 28,000 members of its dating agency.
