DANCE

If the eccentric final credits scene from the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire whet your appetite for synchronised Bollywood routines, we have good news. Dreamgirls of Bollywood plays over the next week at SkyCity Theatre. This musical tells the story of Sajili, a young Indian dancer dreaming of Bollywood
stardom.

Dreamgirls of Bollywood - SkyCity Theatre, Cnr Victoria and Federal Sts, Auckland CBD, to Apr 16, 7.30pm

COUNTRY ROCK

Thirty years into her career, Louisiana-born singer Lucinda Williams is still going strong. She has a new album, Little Honey, and is on the road, visiting us in New Zealand this week for the first time in 16 years. She's joined by her band Buick 6, which includes Doug Pettibone (guitar), David Sutton (bass), former Eels members Chet Lyster (guitar) and Butch Norton (drums).

Lucinda Williams - Auckland Town Hall, 303 Queen St, Auckland CBD, April 17, 8pm

FAMILY

The school holidays continue, so when you've ticked off MOTAT, the Zoo, and Rainbows End, the next step is to go underwater. Penguins are the focus at Kelly Tarlton's this week, with the unusually named "Penguathalon" the main event. The king penguins and the gentoo penguins will be going "beak-to-beak" in some sort of Antarctic answer to Top Town.

Penguathalon - Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter, 23 Tamaki Drive, Orakei, daily to May 10, 9am

COMEDY

Foul-mouthed Australian comedian Kevin Bloody Wilson is kicking around on his Dilligaff Cafe World Tour. His adult-orientated show brings with it a new star - and a female perspective - Jenny Talia. This guy was doing musical comedy when Flight of the Conchords were in diapers. Only his is a little longer in the tooth and rougher round the edges, mate.

Kevin Bloody Wilson - all over North Island, to April 29.

SHOW

Homeowners over the bridge will gather this weekend at the North Shore Events Centre for the annual Home and Garden Show. Thousands of customers and companies are in for a three-day smorgasbord of homewares and garden gear. Feature gardens, 200 exhibitor sites, a food court, and regular daily seminars will keep people nice and busy.

North Shore Home and Garden Show - North Shore Events Centre, Silverfield & Argus Place Entrances, Glenfield, 10am

SKATE

North Harbour Stadium is home to a free, one-day festival this Saturday which, despite being called Rollercoaster 09, doesn't actually feature the theme park ride. Luckily, there's plenty of other action. Extreme downhill skateboard racing and street skating, food, coffee, a film festival tent, street performers, demonstration sports and some great rock bands. Luger Boa are joined by The Twitch, Clap Clap Riot and Quarter 2.

Rollercoaster 09 - North Harbour Stadium, Apr 18, 8am-6pm

ROCK

Good news for fans of frenetic new school punks, Die!Die!Die!. The band plays not one but two shows this weekend in Auckland City. On Friday night they start at 4pm at Cross Street Studios up in Newton for the under-18 crowd. Meanwhile, if you prefer to jump around after dark with a drink in your hand, they play later that night at Nelson St's Bacco Room at Toto's. This is one you don't want to miss.

Die!Die!Die! - Cross St Studios, All Ages, Apr 17, 4pm; Bacco Room, 9.30pm

FAMILY

This week, the Auckland-based children's theatre company, StarFish Magic, is putting on a touring production of a show called The Frog Prince. Their interactive shows generally feature live music, catchy songs, great costumes, dances and bizarre magic tricks. Don't miss it.

The Frog Prince - Orakei Community Centre, Apr 16; Epsom Normal School Hall, Apr 17; Lollipops Playland, Apr 18; Hawke Sea Scout Hall, Apr 20-24
