V8 drivers swap cars
Kiwi Australian V8 Supercar driver, Shane Van Gisbergen, showed he could drive as fast in a Ford Performance Racing car as his own. FPR and Stone Brothers Racing swapped cars at a recent test at Winton. Van Gisbergen has had his turn in Mark Winterbottom's car, and the FPR driver will drive Van Gisbergen's SBR car at Willow Bank Raceway in Ipswich.
Mead favourite for Enduro
Yamaha rider Rory Mead is odds-on to take the honours at final round of the New Zealand Enduro championship at Waimiha today. He leads both the expert (E4) and the 201-270cc (E3) two-stroke classes but any error could see him come away with nothing. Mead has a six-point lead in E4, but has to be wary of Chris Birch in the E3 class.
Leader the road sweeper
The Vantage New Zealand Rally championship's second round starts this weekend with the Rally of Otago. Richard Mason is in the driver's seat after the Hawke's Bay round ahead of Hayden Paddon and Emma Gilmour. Former two-time New Zealand rally champion Mason looks forward to the colder weather giving the cars more grunt. His only concern is having to start first and sweep the roads for those following.
Drivers on drugs
If you thought drug taking was the choice of endurance athletes think again. Nascar owner-driver Jeremy Mayfield and two others have been indefinitely suspended for testing positive for a banned substance. Mayfield is the first Sprint Cup driver to be hit with a ban. Our transtasman neighbours have had positive results pop up at ANDRA drag racing events this year. There was evidence of a drug being used at the Winternationals and the Nitro Champs. The competitors involved have yet to be named.
