KEY POINTS:
Muscular young men are likely to have more sex partners than their less-chiseled peers, researchers at the University of California Los Angeles said yesterday.
Their study, published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, suggests muscles in men are akin to elaborate tail feathers in male peacocks: They
attract females looking for a virile mate.

MichelleThere's another, and most obvious variable I would have thought, in examining this subject matter, which has been overlooked. Men with more muscles have more confidence - therefore they ask for, and get more dates. So . . . it really is all in your perspective date's head. What we ladies often tend to forget, is that blokes are just as nervous as we are in dealings with the opposite sex, dating etc. Misperceptions of what is attractive occur on both sides, and many dated stereotypes seem capable of hanging on for far too long. This Island girl likes them lean, sensitive, and intelligent.
RobynNot nowadays, but the man I chose for my Life Partner was a very brawny, lanky young man when I met him. Over the 26 or 27 years we have been together, he has filled out considerably, unfortunately in the middle area - but his formerly skinny legs & arms & puny chest are now just right! He is 2m tall and all legs & arms. Sometimes his elbows 'get me' if I'm not careful and it's useless trying to wrestle him but I do so love my Big Bear! Just as well I don't have a photo I could email you as it would embarass him to think other people were ogling his magnificent physique. My friend's husband is not a tall man by any stretch of the imagination but he is well-proportioned & physically toned & easy on the eye I must say. My friend is accustomed to women fawning over her hubby (which I am sure he laps up, being a male!) but knows he only has eyes for her. Ain't Love wonderful?
sharonA toned, firm physique is great rather than full on muscle bound- ugh! A good physique on a man is definitely part of the attraction- and it's not an age or reproductive thing- it just looks and feels good!
joshThe researcher concludes that buff dudes get more action than less buff dudes based on interviewing 99 undergrads re their sexual history. I think a better conclusion is that buff men tend to lie more than others.
MelWho do these scientists work for, the Department of Unsurprising Research?
CherryI think guys with too much muscle haven't got time to look after you - they want to look after their muscles!!! In terms of long-term partners, I think someone with a normal physique is fine. Their non physical traits are far more important.
