A tattoo shared by a Portland tattoo artist is dividing the Internet, with many wondering if it is heartwarming - or intentionally rude.

Oregon tattoo artist Ellen Marie Murphy shared her artwork, saying simply; 'Love is kind'.

But fans of her work immediately saw something more than a heart and a hand.

'Does anybody know what this was supposed to be? Was the intention that it should look like balls?' Asked one commenter.

They weren't alone in wondering.

After a bit of sleuthing, one Instagram commenter had a theory; 'I'm pretty sure it was suppose to look that way, click on the tagged account, that's what all of his artwork is about.'

Sure enough, the original design can be found on Mrzyk & Moriceau's x-rated art account.

Along with other suggestive works.
