TV weather presenter Ingrid Hipkiss admits most people probably would not pick her as the type to get a tattoo.

But she has one -- and a whole Pinterest board dedicated to tattoos she likes.

"I quite like swallows, anchors and arrows."

She likes the idea of getting a tattoo in a discreet spot.

"Yeah, I'm not going to be rocking a tribal armband any time soon," she laughed.

"I think it's great if you're a guy and you've got great arms -- then a tattoo might look good on their arms.

"But if you're like me -- pasty -- then actually, I don't want to be drawing attention to that area too much. It's just about finding a little spot that will age well."

The mother of two is a weather presenter for 3 News, and has worked as a reporter and news presenter over the years for the channel.

She got her only tattoo -- a small star on the inside of her right wrist -- done about five years ago.

"It's quite recent. It wasn't like a crazy teenage rebellious thing.

"I'd just kind of always liked them and then it was more like I thought, 'Why not?'

It still seemed a little bit out there, but one day I just thought 'Actually, I'm a grown-up, if I want to do this then I'm just gonna do it'.

"It's quite funny because someone noticed the other day. They said 'Oh, you must be really into stars'.

"I hadn't really thought about it, but then I realised I had a scarf on with stars all over it and a necklace with a star on it and then the tattoo.

"So maybe I've got a thing for stars, but it's not any deeper than that."

She said her fascination with tattoos showed there was always more to people than meets the eye -- particularly when it came to people with a high public profile.

"It's just a reminder that everything you see on TV or in magazines ... is actually not really a true representation of who they really are."
