Lanie Kerigan is a tough, ambitious Seattle TV reporter obsessed with her appearance ("My hair is my trademark"). Unfortunately said hair is a platinum wig that becomes the biggest character in the movie, and completely overshadows its wearer, Angelina Jolie.
Kerigan is offered her big
break, that dream of all movie and TV reporters, a network job in New York. Only problem is that she'll be teamed up with Pete the cameraman (Ed Burns), and they once had a fling.
Apart from that, all is going well until she interviews Prophet Jack (Tony Shalhoub), the sage of the street, who tells her that in one week's time she will be dead. He tells her a few other things, but you can understand that that's the headline news.
As Prophet Jack's predictions begin to come true, Kerigan begins to look at her life and the person she has become. As you would.
If we could care about such a shallow, self-centred character, there might be some interest in her quest for redemption. You're more likely to switch to the other channel.
