'Life-changing' TikTok reveals how to cut cake with a wineglass

Just when you thought using a knife was the only way to cut a cake, one woman has proved the versatility of a simple wine glass – leaving the internet in shock.

TikTok user Rose, who goes by the handle @theroseperiod, shared the "weird" yet clever alternative after uploading a video of her friend Jules celebrating her 20th birthday.

The clip shows the birthday girl sitting in front of a sponge cake with buttercream and sprinkles as guests sing happy birthday.

After Jules blows out the candles, she grabs a wine glass, turns it upside down, and uses it to cut the cake.

Each of her friends can be seen doing the same, so instead of having a plate, party guests end up with a scoop of cake in a wine glass and a spoon.

The group then use their cake-filled wine glasses to "cheers" before digging in.

The video, which was uploaded at the end of last month, has already amassed just over half a million likes and thousands of comments from stunned TikTok users.

"I'm never cutting a cake again," one person wrote.

"Y'all are the smartest ppl I've ever seen," said another.

"Okay but this is actually genius," a third person commented.

"I will never eat cake any other way," a fourth person added, while a fifth said: "How did I go my whole life without knowing this hack?"

While most were "genuinely amazed" by the "weird but smart" hack, others were mostly concerned about the dishes.

"Do y'all in the comments just not use your dishes bc you don't wanna wash them?? That's just a part of using dishes," one person wrote.

"Personally I find wine glasses extra hard to clean; they're delicate and curved inwards. But it's not a huge deal," said another.

One woman pointed out that because the cake is scooped from the top, the icing ends up at the bottom of the cup.

"Yeah but you're eating cake upside down. I need that frosting distributed evenly," she wrote.

"The thing I wanna complain about is all that frosting stuck to the bottom and sides of the glass. I love my frosting," another added.

However, it hasn't stopped the thousands of people who commented from still wanting to give it a go.

"I've never seen someone do this before definitely trying. It looks so much easier," one woman wrote.

"This is LIFE CHANGING," added another.

It's not the first time someone has taken to TikTok to claim you've been cutting cake wrong, with a video going viral earlier this year that claimed cutting a sponge into triangles wasn't the right way to do it.

Under the handle @foodies, the American woman demonstrates her "trick" by using a three-layered chocolate cake.

"I hate to break it to you but you've been cutting cake wrong your entire life," she begins the video titled, "how to cut your cake perfectly".

"Instead of slicing at an angle like you would do a pie, cut the cake in half first, then divide the halves in four equal sections."

She said the method allows the cake to be cut into eight even pieces, instead of having to guess how big the wedges need to be using the "triangle" way.

"This trick has been used by wedding planners to get the most out of wedding cakes and has been proved by mathematicians as the right way to do it," she states.

One user described it as "life changing", while others were left stunned by her technique.

"Most cut it like a pizza slice. I like this way. Actually I love it. Thanx," one man wrote.
