The menu is enticing. Dishes are listed under three categories: vegetarian, hearty start and kids, with options such as potato rosti stack with avocado salsa, citrus feta and toasted pine nuts ($15); buttermilk pancakes with fruit compote, whipped cinnamon butter and maple syrup ($15) and poached pear and rhubarb breakfast crumble with a choice of cream, milk or yoghurt ($12).
The look is reasonably small inside but it's the outdoors area where Luscious shines - great if you're wanting a bit of space rather than be crammed alongside other diners, and perfect if you're dining with kids. There's a chalkboard wall where the little ones can draw, a large sandpit. There also used to be an old-fashioned go-kart, though we couldn't see it when we visited this time. There is also a great kids' menu.
The food was great. We chose the fish of the day hashcakes with poached eggs, spinach, tomato and smoked chilli salsa ($17.50), poached eggs on toast ($10) with a side of creamy mushrooms ($5) and the buttermilk pancakes. All were quickly devoured but the hashcakes, made with snapper, were definitely the winner, closely followed by the generous and tasty pancakes.
The coffee was just right. The latte and the long black were terrific, made from Allpress beans.
