Giving up a life of drugs, alcohol and bad nutrition has seen Reilly Brown reap the rewards.
He will take the stage in Las Vegas at this year's International Natural Bodybuilding Association's Olympia competition next month.
It's been a journey of hard work and sacrifice to get to where heis now, and he is "blown away" that he has qualified for the competition.
"To know I'd been chosen to represent New Zealand, it was crazy, especially in the short amount of time I'd been doing the sport."
Two years ago, his diet consisted of takeaways once a week and bakery food almost every day, including a daily dose of alcohol.
It was during that period of his life that Brown found himself trapped in a cycle of drugs and alcohol, but he has since turned his life around completely.
At his heaviest, he weighed in at 122kg but has shed close to 40kg, getting down to 83kg.
"I literally stopped everything, stopped smoking, stopped drugs, stopped drinking to do what I'm doing now."
