Maori Television presenter Te Hamua Nikora will undergo brain surgery on Monday.
Friends and whanau of the popular presenter banded together over the last month to raise $40,000 of the $60,000 he needed for a private operation to remove a non-cancerous tumour from his pituitary gland.
However, yesterday he was informed that a place had opened up in the public system for the operation. The money raised will now be put into a cancer-focused charitable trust.
