The dominant districts took charge on day two of the Womens Toro Interprovincial to set up an exciting moving day tomorrow which will go a long way to confirming our semi-finalists at Waitikiri Golf Club.
After the success of the mens team at the Clearwater Golf Club last week when they claimed their maiden title in the tournaments 68-year history, Northland find themselves three from three and have momentum that looks hard to stop.
They enjoyed two tight victories over Hawkes Bay PB (3-2) and Otago (3.5-1.5) yesterday before making light work of a solid Aorangi outfit (5-0) this afternoon to be in the box seat which has the undefeated Sjanna Bishop excited for whats to come.
"We are off to a nice start and the girls are playing with a lot of confidence at the moment," said Bishop.
"After watching the boys do the business last week, it certainly has inspired us to try and match them, especially with bragging rights at stake."
However, they face arguably one of the biggest days of golf in their careers tomorrow as they take on North Harbour in the morning and defending champions Auckland in the afternoon which will be tournament defining.
With Auckland showing no signs of slowing down, it makes their morning match against North Harbour all the more important as they both fight for the final place in the top four.
The Aucklanders barely worked up a sweat this morning as they look to win their seventh championship in the last eight years. They first took down Hawkes Bay PB in the morning round (5-0) before adding more pain to Tasmans tournament who have been extremely close in every match with nothing to show for their efforts. The 4.5-0.5 score line doesnt demonstrate how tight their match was.
The host side of Canterbury were one of the teams to turn it on today and get a step closer to the big dance which will be played on Saturday where you can guarantee a wave of local support turning up at the Waitikiri Golf Club.
Canterbury showed grit to get passed a very good Manawatu/Wanganui side in the morning (3.5-1.5) before enjoying a more stress free afternoon by beating Taranaki (5-0).
The morning field gets proceedings underway in style with the Cantabs taking on a Wellington side which is full of confidence after maintaining their 100% record. This will be followed by Northland versus North Harbour with the first ball to be struck at 7:30am
