More songs, more stories, more shat - television superstar William Shatner is returning to New Zealand.

Shatner's World, The Return Down Under is a theatrical journey through the star's life and career, from Shakespearean stage actor to internationally acclaimed icon and raconteur.

In addition to returning to Auckland, Shatner will perform for the first time in Christchurch and Wellington in October this year.

The 87-year-old's expansive body of work ranges from Star Trek to Boston legal, to 30 books and an upcoming country music and Christmas album.

"I've done this one-man show on Broadway and in many cities across the United States," Shatner said.

"At the curtain call, the audiences' reaction, their love and appreciation, moved me to tears. The show has been one of the highlights of my life."

Shatner said The Return Down Under will bring more stories and songs.

"New Zealand audiences will also be able to hear some of my latest musical endeavours performed live for the very first time."

Shatner will perform in Auckland on October 13, Christchurch October 14 and Wellington October 15.
