He might have been the Six Million Dollar man in the 1970s hit television series but the movie remake has had to adjust its figures.
He's now the Six Billion Dollar Man.
And this time Steve Austin, played for five seasons by Lee Majors, is to be depicted by Mark Wahlberg in a movie helmed by Peter Berg who recently directed Wahlberg in Lone Survivor.
The Hollywood Reporter says the reboot is going to be written by Argentinean film-maker Damian Szifron, whose Wild Tales received a best foreign language film Oscar nomination.
There are other changes in the wind for the story of a man brought back to life as a super-fast, super-strength bionic man who becomes a super-spy for the CIA-like OSI (Office of Scientific Intelligence).
While the original Steve Austin was an astronaut and test pilot nearly killed in a crash, Wahlberg's Austin is going to be a military officer.
"The themes surrounding this beloved property allow for the creation of a memorable sci-fi actioner as well as a bold spy thriller," said Szifron in a statement.
"Expectations are high and I'll do my best to deliver the strongest basis for an amazing cinematic experience."
The tv series, which ran from 1974-78 was based on the Martin Caidin novel Cyborg.
The show made a global star of Majors who was married to fellow pop culture icon and Charlie's Angel, Farrah Fawcett, in the 1970s.
A spin-off series, The Bionic Woman, ran from 1976-78 and had a brief television revival in 2007.
