KEY POINTS:
American cable channel HBO has ordered a second season of Kiwi-made comedy Flight of the Conchords.
The show, starring the Kiwi music-comedy duo of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, quickly developed a cult following after its debut in June.
The quirky story of the NZ musicians tryingto make it in New York City was well received in the US with New York Times reviewer, Alessandra Stanley, saying the pair's music parodies were clever, "but part of the series' appeal is the sheer novelty of New Zealanders as comic heroes".
New Zealand as an obscure and backward country that no American can find on a map is a recurring joke.
McKenzie befriends Coco, who says brightly, "New Zealand, there's Vikings there, right?" McKenzie politely agrees.
Flight of the Conchords is yet to show here. The 12-part series will air on NZ screens on Prime next month.
