Wearing head-to-toe Chanel, Lorde performed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York recently at a benefit co-sponsored by the French luxury brand in honour of Tilda Swinton.
The endorsement from Lagerfeld comes at the same time Lorde's hit Royals celebrates eight weeks at No1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Incidentally, Adele's Rolling in the Deep managed to hold No1 for only seven weeks.
Lorde, the toast of Tuis
Pop princess Lorde was, unsurprisingly, the toast of the Tuis last night, scooping four awards - People's Choice, International Achievement, Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Single of the Year for her runaway hit Royals. The video won director Joel Kefali the NZ on Air Best Music Video gong.
How ironic. Is it the first non-funded video to snatch that category?
Lorde and her manager, Scott Maclachlan, didn't use NZ on Air funding for the Royals video, saying they didn't need the cash - or the association. "You know how much negative power that logo has for my generation?'' Lorde said in an interview with Metro magazine.
Evidently the state-funding agency rather values any association with the pop star.
Quax leaks Stones date
The Rolling Stones are heading to New Zealand next year for one show but are staying schtum on the date. However, Auckland councillor Dick Quax let leak.
"Should fans of the Rolling Stones be keeping their diary clear for April 14 concert at Mt Smart?" the ward councillor for Howick tweeted knowingly.
Alas, Quax was playing coy when we rang yesterday. Auckland Council's regional facilities manager, Paul Brewer, was staying tight-lipped too, refusing to say if Quax's quack is on the money. Stay tuned.
Paul Henry's big esteem
His book Outraged has skyrocketed to No1 on the bestseller list, but Paul Henry took time off from his nationwide book tour last night to present two gongs at the Music Awards with TV3 mate Sam Hayes.
He told The Diary he's surprised by how many people say they concur with his views in the book, but wouldn't dare voice them.
"It's such a shame that people can't speak their minds. It's like I'm giving people the opportunity to say what they think through me. Only three or four generations ago we were a country of adventurers, builders and creators. But now there's a level of fear to push the boundaries."
His penchant for nudity, he says, "is an extension of freedom of speech and taking the barriers down. When people see my nude pics in the book they say: one, I've got a great arse, and two, I've got a great tan. But frankly, anyone can have a great tan".
Dan needs Direction
Who knew he's a Directioner? After a whistle-stop trip to Germany for "schnitzel, sausages and beerstein", and adidas work commitments, injured All Black Dan Carter arrived in Dublin yesterday on the hunt for things to do. So he turned to the font of all knowledge - One Direction's Niall Horan.
"Just arrived in your home country. Very Cold! What should I do this week mate?" Carter tweeted the 20-year-old boy band star, a tad overfamiliar. But Dan's not daft. A mateship (real or imaginary) with a One Direction star and his 15 million Twitter followers is sure to do wonders for the AB's groupie cred. Alas, at the time of print, Carter's pointed query remained unrequited.
No monkey business
He cancelled his second show, presumably because tickets weren't selling, but Justin Bieber's whirlwind visit to Auckland is unlikely to cause controversy. His gig at Vector Arena tomorrow night gives him little reason to hang around town and visit the sights. Bieber's penchant for strip clubs on tour is legendary, but the Chow brothers are unlikely to see him falling out of their parlours. Pity. If self-confessed Belieber Ali Williams was in town, things might be different.Taylor Swift, meanwhile, visits next week for three consecutive concerts at Vector. Here's hoping the American pop princess chows down over lunch with Lorde. The pair were snapped last week at the Shake Shack in New York's Madison Square Park apparently getting burgers and milkshakes. The conversation may have been a tad awkward had 17-year-old Lorde not earlier apologised to 23-year-old Taylor for calling her "so flawless and so unattainable".

Just when he thought no one was watching, Hollywood heart throb Michael Fassbender, while filming on the Twizel set of his movie Slow West, took a quick break in the nearby brambles to, er, relieve himself. A local preying paparazzo's intimate snap was sold to European picture agencies and is now circulating around the world on social media. American satellite radio host Frank DeCaro dubbed it the "python pickle shot'', which is sure to get the ladies giggling at Shawty's Cafe.
