<p>The Hallenstein Brothers Critics' Choice Prize is part of the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.</p>
Wellington-based artist Daniel McBride, aka Sheep, Dog & Wolf, has won the Critics' Choice Prize for 2013.
The folk-rock artist was up against Janine and the Mixtape and Paquin, and won after each act performed 30-minute sets at the Kings Arms in Auckland.
McBride thanked his parents, his physio andhis pedal board, "because it didn't break tonight, which is unusual".
Previous winners include Street Chant, Kimbra and Watercolours.
The nominees were announced as part of the New Zealand Music Award nominations, and are given to up and coming artists. Winners are chosen by industry experts and judges on the night.
Sheep, Dog & Wolf wins a $10,000 recording or video grant from NZOnAir, and expert advice and services from the Music Managers Forum, Lynda Parsons Entertainment Accounting, Brent Eccles Entertainment Limited, IPONZ and McLaughlin Law.
