Toyah Webb, Sophia Lawler-Dormer and Annabel Liddell are Grrlfriendz, a noisy punk rock band with a cool edge. The three friends have developed a name on Auckland's live music scene, but it's their penchant for vinyl that will see them spin records as part of Real Groovy's Record Store Day celebrations on Saturday.
The sassy and stylish trio, who also share a love of vintage clothing, will be joined on the decks by the likes of Labour MP Jacinda Adern, NZ Herald Business editor Liam Dann, Pennie Black from 95bFM and TV3 reporter Tova O'Brien - all record-buyers who will spin their favourite tunes in store on the day.
The annual event, launched in 2007, is a global celebration of the culture of independently owned record stores, with vinyl and CD releases made for the day. Locally, special vinyl from Waves, Beastwars and Shihad will be sold in limited runs. Grrlfriendz's set is at noon.
