KEY POINTS:
Gangland drama Underbelly will return for a second series, it has been reported.
Australia's Nine Network, the makers of the show, are understood to have approved a second series, according to Sydney's Daily Telegraph.
Underbelly star Les Hill, who plays gangster Jason Moran, announced the network'sdecision to continue the drama to a packed crowd at Sunday night's Logies television awards in Melbourne.
It is unclear what the new series would be based on, given that the show is based on true life events, and the majority of the main players from the first series wound up dead or in jail.
One idea reportedly being considered is a prequel, based around the life and crimes of Alphonse Gangitano - aka 'The Black Prince Of Lygon St' - who was killed off in the first episode of Underbelly.
The original 13-part series series finishes tomorrow in Australia.
Despite being unable to screen in Victoria due to ongoing court cases involving people the characters were based on, the show has been a hit with Australian audiences.
A DVD of the series, to be released this week, has already received 60,000 pre-orders. The DVD will not be sold in Victoria.
In New Zealand, the popularity of the show was not initially strong, prompting TV3 to pull the series after just three episodes. However, when many outraged viewers contacted the network it was re-instated to its Sunday evening time slot.
