A new Hollywood sci-fi movie is set to be filmed in New Zealand late next year.
From the writer that brought the world Alien and Total Recall, Silvaticus 3015 is a sci-fi thriller set in 3015 where less than one per cent of Earth's population survives a massdestruction.
The American production company Hawk Sound Studios visited New Zealand earlier this year and said it was a "truly magical place" and has decided to film the movie here.
Hawk Sound Studios chief executive officer Michelle Porter told NZPA it hoped to work with New Zealand companies such as Weta workshop, Stone Street Studios and Park Road Post.
She called Weta workshops chief executive Richard Taylor "the Michelangelo of our time".
"In such a short time, we became drawn to the country, the people and cultures, and breathtaking landscapes, knowing we needed to return," she said.
The film is set to be shot at Stone Street Studios in Wellington, the location used for The Lord of the Rings and King Kong.
Ms Porter said it would begin filming in late 2008 or early 2009.
