Commodores fans will be flying high when three original members reunite for a one-off concert next month.
A reunion tour could follow - and New Zealand-based bassist Ron La Pread said it all started when he took the stage with old friend Lionel Richie at his Auckland gig in 2007.
"That was the first time he and I had been on stage together in 25 years," La Pread said.
The Commodores topped charts in the '70s and '80s with hits including Brick House, Easy, Three Times a Lady and Nightshift.
La Pread left the band in 1986, and has been living in New Zealand with wife Farideh for 22 years. He flew to Los Angeles yesterday for rehearsals with Richie and guitarist Thomas McClary.
"I'm going to bend over backwards to get them to come to New Zealand," he said.
