New Zealand's top jockey Lance O'Sullivan does not expect the halcyon days of New Zealand racing to return during his career as a rider.
O'Sullivan, who posted the 2000th win of his career at the Thames meeting yesterday, said those good days were well behind him.
"We have seen the best days of racing in New Zealand as far as my time goes," O'Sullivan said last night.
"We had million dollar races, going back to 1989, 1990, 1991.
"Maybe it will come good in years to come."
O'Sullivan, 37, however, did not expect to be still riding if that time arrived.
He said he would not continue riding as long as the likes of David Peake who is aged 55.
"No, no, no," he replied to such a suggestion.
"I won't be riding at 45."
O'Sullivan has been New Zealand's premiership champion jockey 10 times and has ridden 55 winners at group one level. He said it can be difficult to keep up his enthusiasm.
