We knew there'd be bloodshed, but Game of Thrones fans weren't quite prepared for this.
The death of a main character has rocked the finale of Game ofThrones, only half an hour into the episode.
In what has possibly been one of the most dramatic moments in the show's history, a fan favourite character since the beginning has had a shocking and abrupt demise.
Following her merciless slaughter of the people of King's Landing, Jon Snow double crossed his lover Daenerys Targaryen, stabbing her in the chest in the throws of passion.
After ordering the execution of the remainder of Cersei Lannister's guards, and sentencing Tyrion Lannister to die for treason after he helped his brother Jaime escape, Jon confronted Dany as she marvelled at the Iron Throne, finally tasting the power she'd craved since the very beginning.
"Children, little children, burned!" Jon screamed at her in the wake of her 'mad queen' outburst.
"I tried to make peace with Cersei, she used their innocence as a weapon against me. She thought it'd cripple me," Dany said, before attempting to inspire Jon about the good world they'd build together.
"It's not easy to see something that's never been before. A good world. I know what is good," she said.
"What about everyone else. All the other people who think they know what's good?" Jon asked, before Dany said something that pushed him over the edge. "They don't get to choose," she said.
"We do it together. We break the wheel, together. Be with me. Build the new world with me. This is our reason. It has been from the beginning since you were a little boy with a bastards name and I was a little girl who couldn't count to 20," she said.
"You are my queen, now and always," Jon replied, before the pair kiss.
Just when you think they've made up.....

Then in a moment that viewers were not expecting in this emotional scene, Jon stabbed her in the chest, crying over her dead body.
Dany's dragon Drogon then appeared, shooting fire and narrowly missing Jon, before melting the Iron Throne into oblivion and flying away with Dany's body.
