Ed Sheeran confessed he is now stuck with an incorrectly spelled tattoo after his actress pal Saoirse Ronan purposely wrote "Galway GRILL" instead of "GIRL."

The 26-year-old singer - who has more than 60 inkings - laughed it off as he claimed it was the sort of thing he would do.

According to The Sun, the Grammy-winning artist made the confession on the first night of the UK part of his Glasgow tour on Sunday.

His pal Saoirse Ronan - 23, who stars in his Galway Girl music video which was filmed in Ireland last week - thought it would be hilarious to misspell the pop star's song title.

Speaking at his concert, he said: "The tattoo actually says Galway Grill G-R-I-L-L. She really took the p*** outta me - full on. I'm actually quite proud of her it's the kind of thing I would do."

Pleased with his tattoos, the Hearts Don't Break Around Here hitmaker famously went shirtless for his Shape Of You music video, the Daily Mail reports.

Until then, the record-breaking artist had covered up his varied colourful inkings with baggy jumpers.

The Suffolk native has painstakingly spent 40 hours being inked by celebrity tattoo artist Kevin Paul, who has also inked Rihanna and Harry Styles.

Kevin told MailOnline: "We've spent about 40 hours on Ed over the past year, and keeping it a secret was probably the hardest bit.

"Sometimes he'd travel to me but usually we'd go round to his house, put on a box-set and order Nando's, and do a bit of tattooing. It was all very chilled. Ed now has thirty tattoos on his front, plus countless ones down his arms.

"Every single one recently involved horrific pain, especially around the ribs and I remember one time he had to fly out to Italy the next day, and had this awful, weeping tattoo seeping through the clingfilm used to protect it. It wasn't an ideal situation."

Every single tattoo has a meaning whether it is connected to a family member, a friend or a cherished memory.
