KEY POINTS:
Madonna has taken adopted Malawi son David Banda for a drive on her lap.
The Hung Up singer was pictured on March 2 in her Escalade ESV holding 17-month-old David on her lap. There was no child seat in the vehicle which is required by law.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "There was no car seat. She sat in the middle row, and they left with David on her lap."
Last year, Britney Spears infuriated child safety campaigners after she was pictured driving in Los Angeles with son Sean Preston balanced precariously on her lap without a seat belt.
A representative for Madonna said: "Proper security measures are always taken for Madonna's children."
Meanwhile, a woman claiming to be a former nanny to Madonna's children has approached publishers about writing a tell-all book on life in her household.
Melissa Dumas' 80 page synopsis contains details about Madonna's marriage to Guy Ritchie, their children's behaviour, the family's involvement in Kabbalah, and the motivation behind Madonna's decision to adopt David.
The proposal also contains personal photographs of Madonna's family, and pictures of Dumas playing with Madonna's kids.
It also includes a copy of an unsigned nondisclosure agreement that Dumas claims Madonna only gave her after she resigned.
The literary agent listed in the proposal, Sharlene Martin, refused to confirm or deny an affiliation with the proposal or the listed author. She did not confirm or deny that the proposal has been bought by a publisher.
