Lorde has yet to lock in the final details of her new record but tells fans it will be about stepping out of her hometown bubble.
Lorde sat down to answer questions from Dazed Magazine readers in a series of video clips posted to Instagram.
When asked what message shewould convey on her next album, she said: "I'm not 100% sure yet but I will say if the first record was about living in the bubble of your hometown, the second record will be about stepping out of that bubble for the first time."
The Auckland-raised teenager has previously spoken about her sheltered upbringing in the seaside suburb of Devonport, saying: "All the kids call this the bubble because everyone knows everyone and it feels very shut off from the rest of the city.
"I feel like you can hear where I'm from in the music, I feel like I write about the place a lot."
The 18-year-old chart topper was also asked what she would change about the lives of young women today.
"I want all young women to feel safe, to feel like they have a right to learn, to not be afraid to speak and I want them to be a bunch of bad asses and f**king tear s**t up."
She also encouraged her fans to embrace their differences.
