Much has changed since Lemmings last walked the Earth, the most obvious thing being the rise of Angry Birds forever turning portable gaming on its head.
Now the PC classic has been reborn as one of the most sensible handheld games ever.
The lemmings wander toward their goal with single-minded determination, oblivious to the traps and falls ahead. Your job, as always, is to intervene and assign them abilities to avoid those perils. Classic abilities like building and mining are still available as well as a new range of tricks like trampolines and doors that can be activated with a swipe of the Vita's touch screen.
Newcomers might have a faster affinity with the touch-based job wheel, which opens up with a quick jab and allows you to select a lemming for assignment, than veterans used to picking skills from a menu.

Regardless, coming to grips with this system provides Lemmings Touch with the steepest part of its learning curve. When you get it wrong, you can hasten the lemmings' demise by nuking the lot.
If rodent genocide makes you queasy then it's about time you met the mischievous lemming, a new character that is half utter bastard and half sadly-perpetuated stereotype with flame-red hair. If you see one, you must kill it before it reaches its goal or you fail the level entirely.
If you can understand what a difficult process beating a level can be, you'll appreciate what a swerve to the series this is.
